Raven’s Knoll is a home for the Pagan community. It is a dream that is manifest through the effort of volunteers. Anyone is welcome at a work weekend, no matter their skill level or ability – we are a kaleidoscope. The important thing is that everyone carries with them a positive attitude and makes an effort to contribute, for creating a home is a spiritual devotion.
At work weekends we undertake various jobs, from maintenance of the grounds, bicycle fleet or buildings, to land stewardship of the fields, forests and beach, to special projects like earth ovens or chariot making, to creative activities like painting or sprucing up sacred sites. All accommodation is by camping, with no fee attached to any camping by volunteers. If there are family members or friends who want to camp with a volunteer for the weekend that is encouraged. They merely pay the regular camping rates at the Knoll.
One of the volunteer groups are the Kitchen Witches who cook a breakfast, lunch and dinner on Saturday, and breakfast and lunch on Sunday. Anyone can pay into the food plan for these meals at a very reasonable rate. There are always vegetarian and gluten free options.
People usually arrive on Friday evening, to greet old friends and meet new ones around the campfire. There is an organization meeting on Saturday morning around 9 a.m. after breakfast, where we decide what to accomplish during the weekend and break into groups to accomplish our tasks according to our abilities and the tools we have. We work through the day until about 5 p.m. On Saturday we sit down to a communal meal where we establish the sacred bonds of those who create, work and eat at the same table. In the evening we hang out around the campfire, and if people are so moved we discuss important ideas and concepts, chit-chat, sing, chant or play a bit of music, according to how the spirit moves the people who are there. On Sunday we do the same from about 9 or 10 a.m. until about 3 or so p.m. On some work weekends there will be rituals to celebrate the turning of the wheel of the year or a full moon, if the time happens to be ripe.
Raven’s Knoll is created from the positive energy of our collective will. We work our will thorough our minds and hands in this concrete way to be a positive force in other people’s lives, as well as filling our own lives with purpose. To build something up, in a setting of forest and field, amongst sacred sites, is an incredible feeling. By doing this work together we can manifest amazing Pagan gatherings and build our fabulous community.
